Sanguinati Covens of Mystic Steeples
Graven Dust
Graven Dust is the oldest known coven in Mystic City that is still functioning, and as such, the Sanguinati consider it the most prestigious. This coven is made up mostly of tenth-generation Sanguinati or longer. They seek out apprentices who share their sense of tradition, particularly when related to Sanguinati elitism, which they tout unashamedly. With their elitist history and opinions, many Brazen Gravens still revere Venerious Falmoth and would prefer that Mystic Steeples reinstate him as head vespercestor. They share mutual regard for history, security, and genetics; therefore, they are the most selective in their admissions policy.
Nickname: The Brazen Gravens.
Namesake: Their name is derived from the chiseled debris or dust from the first oracles the Ancients engraved in stone. The dust of those oracles is well contained in stone urns by Graven Dust coven and is believed to contain magical powers.
Headquarters: Graven Dust’s coven house is located in Graven Castle, 2024 Skullhead Street, Mystic City, Severance, Hoopenfangia, near the Soggychoppy Café. On its gated entry (called the Segre Gate), it has a magnificent crest featuring a gold tablet and a chisel.

Wormwood Philters
Wormwood Philters is the second oldest coven at Mystic Steeples. Much of the coven consists of seventh children of seventh children. These Seventh Children are considered to be extra gifted in the ways of magic. They do not care for Venerious Falmoth, as he would have probably drowned them because of his control issues, as he had when he ruled Mystic Steeples. They tend to be persistent yet sometimes unpredictable. They are also known to be cunning, one-track minded, and withdrawn from Sanguinati society.
Nickname: Seventh Heaven.
Namesake: Their name is derived from the philters or potions their ancestors drank in order to produce multiple children.
Headquarters: Their coven headquarters is called Seventh Heaven (as is their nickname) and is located on the seventh level of the seven-story Tower of Virtuous XXX in Mystic Steeples, Severance, Hoopenfangia.

Warlocks’ Bane
Warlocks’ Bane is the third oldest coven at Mystic Steeples. This coven largely consists of female witches, but they admit any witch that has a crafty, determined spirit. Loyal to a fault and suspicious by nature, they are known for their stubbornness and keen sensibilities. They are driven to action by their convictions, and whether accurate or inaccurate, they tend to regret nothing.
Nickname: The Traitor Baiters. They acquired this nickname because the early Sanguinati witches went undercover and baited or entrapped suspected witches in order to unmask them as traitors, aka warlocks.
Namesake: Bane means a cause of somebody’s ruin or death. Therefore, their coven name derived from the early witches who brought to ruin the betraying Sanguinati witches (warlocks) during an ancient rebellion.
Headquarters: Warlocks’ Bane Gallery is located in Usabelli’s Floating Gallery in Usabelli’s Square in Mystic Steeples, Severance, Hoopenfangia.
Official Symbol: A horned fox.

Dragon’s Mantle
Dragon’s Mantle is the fourth oldest coven at Mystic Steeples. This coven consists mainly of witches whose mission is to preserve animals and nature, especially enchanted creatures, and have shown an aptitude to control or influence dragons. They tend to be strong, ingenuitive, fearless, and heroic.
Nickname: The Greencoats.
Namesake: Dragon’s Mantle’s name is derived from the ancient mantle (cloak) that the Ancient Monavu used to control the black dragon she rode. Besides mantle, meaning a type of cloak, it is also a word describing an authoritative role or obligation handed down from one person to another.
Headquarters: The coven house for Dragon’s Mantle is called Dragon’s Den. It is located at 8244 Pluvia Alley, on Pluvia and Charnel Alley's corner, in Mystic City, Severance, Hoopenfangia.
It always rains on Pluvia Alley; therefore, this is the only place where Mystic Ministry will allow Dragon’s Mantle to establish their coven headquarters. The reason for this is, as part of their mission for the conservation of enchanted creatures, the Greencoats sometimes incubate and hatch abandoned dragon eggs, and fire-breathing dragons could risk burning down the city and Mystic Steeples. For this reason, the firewalkers’ headquarters is next door to the Dragon’s Den.
Official Symbol: A dragon.
Official Color: Dark green.
Matron or Patron Ancient: Monavu.

Snuffinumbra
Snuffinumbra is the fifth oldest coven at Mystic Steeples. Peacemakers, their mission usually involves inclusiveness, fairness, and order. Mystic Ministry often assigns Snuffinumbra duties as monitors, public relations, and apprentice ambassadors. Because of their dealings with the ministry, there does exist within this coven a certain haughtiness that, on the surface, appears tolerant of various witch origins as well as Nizzertits: however, sometimes they tend to have a Sanguinati purist nature and as such, are sympathetic toward Venerious Falmoth.
Nickname: The Judicians, but others patronizingly coined them the Gavel Whackers. A gavel is a ceremonial, hammerlike mallet that the Magistrate of Magic, or other presiding officers, pound against a sounding block or lectern to bring attention to the court or a verdict. A gavel is a symbol of the holder’s authority to keep things calm and orderly.
Namesake: Snuffinumbra’s name derives from its original coven members who set out to snuff out umbrage, which manifests as anger or bad attitudes from believed offenses. Umbra also refers to shadows or darkness, both literally as well as darkness within people, often manifesting as physical entities. Therefore, Snuffinumbra accepts the challenge of snuffing umbras, as well as regulating and fostering good relations foremost between the covens.
Headquarters: Snuffinumbra’s coven house is called Umbrage Underground and is located at Sublevel 64 Fridline Alley, Mystic City, Severance, Hoopenfangia.
Official Symbol: Their symbol is the scale of justice.
Official Color: Dark red. Red is a high-alert color for stopping things that threaten our security. It is also associated with power and prestige, as well as courage and compassion.

Cryptic Chambers
Cryptic Chambers is the sixth oldest coven at Mystic Steeples. This coven is mostly made up of Sanguinati witches who possess a gift or interest in alchemy, the arcane, breaking and creating codes, cryptic symbols, or those who possess talent as bards, poets, heralds, and spell writers.
Often geniuses, they tend to be eloquent, inventive, and prone to travel. They are the only coven that is allowed access to the Sanguinati Chamber of Oracles and historical scrolls, thereby becoming archivist (historians).
Collectively, their mission is progression and the new Sanguinati versus the old. More bookworm than physical in nature, this coven is the most diverse but sadly standoffish, if only because apprentices who aren’t selected by the other covens are put in Cryptic Chambers by default.

Nickname: The Crypts. Some of the Sanguinati, especially Graven Dust coven, disparagingly call them the Chamber Rangers.
Namesake: Cryptic Chambers' name is derived from the ancient chambers that former members explored, as well as the cryptic messages and ancient texts they uncovered.
Headquarters: Cryptic Chambers' coven house is located in Cryptic Castle at 46-plus Ossuary Alley, Mystic City, Severance, Hoopenfangia.
Official Symbol: A winged staff with two snakes coiled around it, which was the herald's staff, or magic wand of the Greek god Hermes who was the same as the Roman god Mercury. Mercury was the messenger of the gods and an inventor of magic incantations. A symbol of restraint and control, this winged magic wand was used in alchemy, and the sons of Hermes were known as alchemists or practitioners of the hermetic arts.
Official Color: Black, which represents mystery and the dark chambers the members explore.
Matron or Patron Ancient: Sesepha.
Official Treasures: The Scepter of Sesepha, which is also the official initiation wand of Cryptic Chambers coven.
Coven Manifesto: Foremost, Crypts must desire to enlighten, to uncover ancient encryptions and buried artifacts. Any manifestations — permissible manifestations — Crypts should consider a privilege.
