Valor McRaven

Name: Valor McRaven. Name Pronunciation: [VAL-er Mack-RAY-ven]. Middle Name: Ulysses [You-LISS-sees]. Behind The Name: Valor’s middle name came from his Great-great-grandfather Ulysses LaRock. Valor’s father, Houmas, wanted his son to be rough and tough like himself, so he originally wanted to name Valor Brutus, but Lithium protested, so Houmas had to settle for naming him Valor. Story Rank: Valor is the main character of the series, followed by his adopted sister, Doomsy Gloomsy. Title: In Book One, Curse of the McRavens, Valor hopes to become a Sanguinati Apprentice of Magic. His friends say he’s The Knight of Night; the one prophesied to lead Candlewicke Coven to fight against the Grim Warlock and unravel the Great Deception.
Magic Affiliation: Sanguinati. Education: Valor finished grade school (grades 7) while in the sanatorium. Date & Place of Birth: Severance, Hoopenfangia. In Mystic Infirmary on Monday, December 23, 1997. During a crescent moon that evening, nearly thirteen years before the story actually starts, Valor and his identical twin, Lavon McRaven, were born (a month premature and mysteriously poisoned) to Lithium and Houmas McRaven. Six days after their birth and initial poisoning, Valor’s and Lavon’s hair turned white. They were released from Mystic Infirmary to go home to their parents’ apartment in Mystic Steeples' southwestern side: apartment 3062+ on the eighth floor over Toadflax Hall. While living at the apprentice apartments for only six days, someone tried to poison baby Valor and Lavon a second time. This attack kills baby Lavon, but Valor survives, leaving Valor feeling guilty and suffering from twinless twin syndrome. Valor McRaven Quote: “Doomsy says, ‘To live and die before a mirror should be my motto,’ She loves to give me a hard time. But I don’t think it’s vanity, really. I mean, I do like to look nice, it’s just . . . mirrors help me feel closer to my twin who passed away.” Height/Weight/Physical Description: By the age of 13, Valor is below average at the height of 5'1” and weight of 90lbs. He has big, blinky blue eyes and pale skin. His hair turned white six days after birth, from either a malicious spell or poisoning. To avoid bringing attention to all of this, he keeps his hair combed as slick to his head as he can. Although he may pretend to be indifferent to his vanities, Valor is a lover of refined language. Smartly dressed, but not wanting to appear fashionable or unique, he is gallant and particular about his physical appearance. Address: After Mystic Ministry arrested the McRaven family, Valor’s new address became Grossatete Sanatorium, located a mile from Mystic Steeples in the city of Severance. Citizenship/Ethnic Origin: Hoopenfangia / Caucasian. The ancestors of the McRavens come from The United States but have Scottish blood. The DaDovies have French Blood. Familiar: Valor has an Elusive Griffin named Booger Fay. Social Class: Many of the Sanguinati consider the McRavens as middle to low class.
Community Status: Many of the Sanguinati consider Valor an outsider and a freak.
Magic Specialties: Sorcery, which is inborn magic; Free Floating; shadow morph; and power of persuasion.
Magic Wands: Wand of Wallop: A prison-grade wand that sanatorium inmates are allowed to use when hunting in Grossatete Grove. Valor McRaven Quotes: “My father forces me to go with him on his dreadful hunting trips in hopes it will put hair on my chest and make me a man like him.” Focus Pocus Monoculous: A monocle or quizzing glass with an opalescent moonstone adorning the tip of a long carved handle. Valor McRaven Quotes: “My grandmother Ellavyn gave me the monoculous for my birthday. I soon discovered that it makes the best magic wand.”
“I have vision trouble at times due to two mysterious poisonings, so I often use my Focus Pocus Monoculous to inspect things.” Hobbies/Recreations: Valor pursues leisurely hobbies with an appearance of disinterest. He takes pride in his appearance and clothes but wishes he could sing.
He prefers luxuries, painting, iconic and classic art, flying besoms, and learning secrets. He also loves morphing things together like, his Mortucycle.
In books, he enjoys history, archeology, and genealogy, as well as writing in his journals.
When it comes to sports, he prefers none but has always wanted to see the dragon races.
